mood (barcelona at night)

On our way home …

Honestly, I am surprised that any of these pictures turned out okay – No tripod, and only my old Canon A-1 camera. And Fuji 800 film i’ve been trying out on that trip. It’s not bad, but nothing beats Portra 800 …

It was an experiment – I went to Barcelona and only brought one analog camera. Nothing else. (My phone is so old and crappy, it really does not count as a camera)

Summer in Vienna.

Antwerp, earlier this year

I spent last week in Barcelona, at OFFF. I also stomped around the city a lot, and got to be on top of a significant amount of Barcelona’s hills.

And I didn’t bring a digital camera, just my analog Canon. But this picture I took in Antwerp earlier this year sums up the mood quite well :)

Zerschmetter im Frieden

zerschmettern

While sorting through my folders, I found a picture I took last summer …

A double exposure blending a train station and one of Vienna’s flak towers. I kind of gave up on using my old Rolleicord after a few test rolls, as the camera was in desperate need of some repairs, upgrades, and general tinkering. The picture comes from my first test run after I got the camera, proving that the setup was capable of producing proper images after all.

But hacking and tinkering was still required, so I disassembled and cleaned the camera. And when all the new parts were acquired and the camera was back in one piece again, summer was gone. Freshly renovated, the camera sat on my shelf for a few months looking pretty – and waiting for better light.

Spring is in the air. There is sun. And enough light for daylight film, even in ancient cameras.

Now that my Rolleicord Art Deco even has a customized polarizer, it might be time to get it out again and start shooting.

Graz.

So I was trying out Lomo 800 film. And I like the colours.

But wow. It is so incredibly grainy. It’s impossible to get even close to a proper black with that film. I mean I guess it could be considered “romantic” or something? But even if I did not want much in terms of saturation, I still want the colours to be slightly more even. Oh well.

I shot half of the film at “my” train station, and it kind of worked there – but I’m still a bit sad that I wasted a day with the best lightning ever on this film. Because “kind of worked” means that the saturation and colours are alright, but the graininess still sucks :P

But I do love the street lights at Jakominiplatz (above).

first snow in 2016?

first-snow-2016-1

Photowalk! First snow in 2016! First snow this winter!

Actually, that is not true. In the early hours of new year’s day, Vienna got a bit of snow as well. But as it was all gone when we woke up again, I will just declare this the first snow day of the season. Maybe because I really, really love snow and I don’t like the idea of having slept through the first potential snow experience in months ;)

Besides snow, I also love “my” railroad bridge. I don’t know how many pictures I have shot from up there over the years. The train station around it looks incredibly creepy and also very pretty in a disgusting way …

This past weekend had another amazing snow day, and I shot a whole roll of film when we were out that day. But I messed up one of the settings, and the film I used also requires a different kind of developer that we first need to order.

Blah blah. It is going to take a while until I get to see how (or if) the pictures have been working out.

In other exciting news, the scanner in my apartment got new software, so we are not quite sure if the green tint is related to this new piece of software. It probably is, but I think that the light looks really nice in the pictures as they are – And I think it’s not too far off from the actual lightning situation.

And the wonky bridge. The other one, much smaller and for pedestrians only. I have been trying to take a perfectly symmetrical photograph of this bridge-tunnel-thing for years now, and failing every time. I am almost convinced now that the bridge itself is the reason for my failure. It’s just not straight at all.

Maybe that is why I like it so much.
