costume

_DSC0028

This is the latest costume I made … Excuse the horrible middle-of-the-night-nobody-feels-like-taking-pictures-pictures ;)

So … let’s see: I made the stripey invisible bloomers, the crinoline, the white skirt and collared shirt, the corset, most of the jewellery, and the whip.
I didn’t make the boots, the socks, and the white lace gloves. The gloves were found in some great grandmother’s attic, so that’s awesome as well.

if epiphany would sound a little less pretentious …

IMG_9476

This is some oooold wallpaper that I found in a tiny corridor in an abadoned factory building somewhere in Vienna. Isn’t it great?

In the middle of gathering my stuff for a little weekend getaway, I noticed how much of the things I was packing were handmade by me. And I couldn’t help but stop for a moment and smile.

When I was just 15 or 16 years old I started admiring crafters, sewists, makers.

I really wanted to be one of those people that would naturally sew a new pair of pants rather than go to the mall and get everything there. And just now I realized that I somehow became that person.

It seems that, somehow, one can become quite a lot of things by just stubbornly wishing for them to become reality.

printing machine

My screen printing machine is now ready to print. I kind of messed up the first screen, but I’m getting there …

At least I made lots of just slightly ugly cephalopods. That’s something?

slow

progress1

My still-not-so-finished costume project currently presents itself as a giant, fluffy monster, lingering in the corner of my bedroom. The pile seemingly is just about to devour my bed, and then me. Probably in that order. (But maybe, if I manage to defeat the white beast, it will eventually become a petticoat.)

Also, there’s a peak at another, less frightening part of the project. It involves wood turning and playing with leather scraps. And paint:
